What a month this has been. In late September we got word that Ben's grandfather's health was fading fast. Ben and I spent many hours discussing how to get our family back to Indiana to see his grandfather for what could be the last time. In early October it was apparent that Ben needed to be in Indiana as quickly as possible to see his grandfather. I stayed back to take care of the kids.
On the evening of October 8th, Ben's grandfather, William Homrig passed away peacefully surrounded by family. I am so glad that Ben was able to spend the last days with his grandfather and be in Indiana surrounded by family and friends for the funeral.
I never had the opportunity to meet William in person but I am blessed with the stories from family and the never ending love of his wife. Here is a recent picture as well as his amazing obituary.
Born in Lafayette on Sept. 5, 1923, he was the son of the late Webster and Mary Hirzel Homrig. He was a graduate of Montmorenci High School.
On Dec. 15, 1945, he married LaVaughn Habben in Otterbein, and she survives.
Mr. Homrig served in the Merchant Marines in 1945 and 1946. He resided in San Francisco for three years and wintered at his Fort Lauderdale, Fla., home for 20 years.
He was employed at Fauber Construction for 27 years, and prior to that at National Homes.
He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. He enjoyed golf, music, Purdue sports, the Indianapolis Colts, and most of all traveling to spend time with his family.
Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Barbara Manley (husband: David) of Pleasant Hill, Calif., Kathleen Maidenberg (husband: Lee) of Clearwater, Fla., and Susan Stutts (husband: Steve) of Houston; a sister, Madeline Isaacson (husband: William) of Walnut Creek, Calif.; and a brother, Robert "Laddie" Homrig (wife: Marguerite) of San Francisco.
